He became a professor, succeeded Davy at the Royal Institution, and isolated lithium in 1821. Brande worked with the Royal Mint and authored popular works like "Brande's Manual of Chemistry" (1819) and "Dictionary of Science, Literature and Art" 1842. His Royal Institution Christmas Lectures covered various chemistry topics from 1834 to 1850.
